The department of Big Data Science was founded in April 2017, mainly undertaking the cultivation of Big Data talents, and related teaching and research. It has one undergraduate major of "Data Science and Big Data technology", relying on the Big Data application innovation base of the Ministry of education, which is co-founded with SUGON China Science and technology, in order to cultivate data engineers with solid scientific theoretical basis of Data Science and engineering practice ability as well. At the same time, it has the "Data Science and Artificial Intelligence" laboratory based on four master degree "engineering simulation and statistics", "Mathematics", "Applied Statistics" and "vehicle engineering (intelligent driving environment perception technology)". The academic leader of the subject is Professor Jingsheng Lei, with the research direction of "Machine Learning and Big Data Processing", "Big Data Processing and Statistical Analysis", "Big Data Analysis and Application" and "Big Data Intelligent Processing". It mainly trains data scientists with data insight and algorithm design abilities. Now, there are 19 full time faculty members and 6 part time faculty members, among whom 7 are professors, 6 are associate professors, 9 are teachers with Ph. D. degrees, accounting for 73.6%. The energetic team holds on 10 national project, 12 provincial level projects, 1 first prize and 2 of three prize of Zhejiang science and technology progress.
