In the evening of April 3rd, the Sino-German Art Performance was held in the Student Center (Crystal Theater) of ZUST. The Dresden Brass Band and ZUST College Student Art Troupe jointly presented various musical, dancing and singing performances.
Special guests were Bao Xuejun, deputy secretary of the provincial Education Committee and deputy director of provincial Education Department; Prof. Gong Jianli, ZUST Party secretary; Prof. Ye Gaoxiang, ZUST president and other university leaders. Others attending were former ZUST leaders, officials from Hangzhou Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office and Anji county, German guests, ZUST alumni and thousands of teachers and students. The diverse audience enjoyed the performance together.
Prof. Gong Jianli delivered a speech saying that ZUST is a forerunner of international cooperative education in Zhejiang province. This has been a result of China’s reform and opening up policy coupled with a long history of Sino-German education cooperation. He expressed a warm welcome to Dresden Brass Band, saying that the Sino-German Art Performance would surely enhance and promote Sino-German exchange of arts and humanities and friendship between the two cities.
Before the performance, the assistant principal handed out donor certificates to Yu Zhendong, Zhu Jia and other teachers and students, for their donations to the Student Center.
The performance lasted over one hour. Dresden Brass Band exquisitely performed more than ten beautiful concertos, including some classic works like Händel’s “Wassermusik” (Water Music), and the traditional German folk song “Geh aus mein Herz und suche Freud” (My Heart Going Out to Find Happiness).
ZUST College Student Art Troupe performed compositions like “Picking Mulberry Leaves” and “A Parting Tune with a Thrice Repeated Refrain”, which showed the melodious and beautiful Chinese classical music. What brought the show to a climax was the friendly and harmonious chapter—“Ode to Joy” by both Chinese and German performers.
